I am SO frustrated right now!
I have several fantastic ideas, I’ve tried them all, and none of them are giving me anything like what I want. And it’s not for lack of trying, either. It’s just that when you do a “Sci fi” space, everybody and their brother immediately thinks LOTS of small round lights and white walls. I’m trying to stay the hell away from tat… and it’s not working.
(Now obviously, this is just a WIP so don’t judge TOO harshly.. but I’ve also already said it sucks so… Also, I didn’t know WordPress could display images like this ^^, in a circle, that’s neat!)
I ADORE that wall covering, it’s bright and fun. You can’t see it, but it’s also got a nice texture. Maybe it’s the flooring. It’s a metal floor, but it looks a fair amount like wood, which is absolutely NOT what I want. Or that rug. It’s gorgeous, and one if many good choices, but it’s not terribly, sci fi or futuristic the way we normally think about it. That was the point: I don’t want to do the obvious; I was imagining a future where life is bleak: everything green is now being grown underground because it’s Mad Max desert topside, you know? So in their living spaces, people are salvaging what’s left of old human civilization: comfy area rugs, old cameras, beautiful space prints, old cogs and pulleys… in short, I’m going for a cross between steampunk and sci fi without wanting to go too far in either.
Ugh. I know what I mean, but even explaining it is awkward. No wonder it’s not clicking!
Anyway, two days to go. Either I’ll turn something in or I might as well sit it out.

Hello there my old friends. This post is nearly two weeks late, and I apologize for that. If you’ve been following this year’s DOTY, you already know I didn’t win. My entry finished in 5th, in fact. Not quite what I was aiming for, but OMG am I pleased with myself anyway!
Since then, I’ve made a (nearly) CC-free house I’m pretty pleased with as well. I have two versions of it, one with a pool for slightly smaller lots, and another with a pool and hot tub in the back yard. I’ll have a few pics to share over the weekend, and it will be available for download from right here.
What’s that? You want to see now? Oh ok, here you go! Continue reading

First of all, I should not have neglected updating you on the progress of DOTY.
Round 4 saw us taking the Smiths to South Africa, staying at Kruger National Park. I’ll post the pictures I did not submit here, they’re mostly just for fun, but you can find my entry here. Continue reading

My goal this year was to make it to the third round of DOTY this year, and guess what? I DID IT!
As you can imagine, I’m terribly excited. I’ll have more updates at the end of this week’s entry period. Wish me luck!
I’d also like to congratulate all those who made it through, including the LivingSims members who managed to be chosen out of the top 20. Well done to all! TO everyone else, I don’t know how they didn’t choose you, because you were some real and serious competition. Thank you!

I meant to post this a few days ago, but this round took so much out of me that I had to take a few days to breathe!
This time around, the Smiths are in Tuscany, Italy. We’re talking beautiful sunsets, rustic charm, the works. I chose a color palette I thought would work nicely in a rustic farmhouse, since we were doing the kitchen/dining area.

Heaven help me, I’ve fallen into DOTY again…
The proof is in the puddin’: here’s my entry into this year’s contest.
YIKES!
Also, say hello to Mr Jaden and Mrs Melissa Smith. Aren’t they a cute couple?

(Before I gush about the fact that DOTY is back, let me say this: For the umpteenth time, I’m soo sorry to have abandoned you, my dear readers! I’ve been… feeling reclusive, I guess. Also, I was having serious and increasing trouble with my computer, and therefore was neither creating nor playing much anymore. I think I’m ready to be back now: I have a brand new, 22 inch monitor, which is gigantic next to my old 17 inch VGA one, I expect to have a new video card by Tuesday, and most important of all I finally cleaned out the dust from INSIDE my computer, which is now purring and cooing, instead of yelling at me about how hard I make it work! So yeah, I’m back, just in time for….)

inA little while ago (ok, last month, right in the middle of NaNoWriMo and other projects) I entered a challenge/contest on Simtech Forums, for Simplistic Magazine. The contest was hosted both on their site and on Facebook, so I’m not sure I even saw all the entries, but the ones I did see where pretty darned good.
The idea was to take one of three very specific SIMcredible design holiday sets, and one of three specific color palettes, and redo the entire first floor of a specific Sunset Valley house. It’s a pretty nice house, actually, with a nice open floor plan, but I had to redo it a little. It had all this kitchen/dining space that was underutilized, for one thing.
Anyway… Continue reading
